Chaos Constructions 2008

Some information about the party in english for us, foreigners :)

At 30th and 31th of august 2008, Computer Art Festival "Chaos Constructions 2008" will take place in St.Petersburg, Russia. For more than ten years we are continuing tradition of Russian summer demoparty.

During these two days, festival will attract many people who work and create on computers - programmers, graphicians, musicians, designers, hardware engineers, system administrators and other people who are interested in modern technologies. It is a great opportunity to compete in various competitions, to meet and talk with colleages, to find out about computer underground and cutting edge both modern and vintage technology.

Along with competitions, once again, we are organising an exhibition of vintage (including Soviet PCs!), historical and strange computers of west and east.

Partners of the festival are: Sun Microsystems, Russian Institute of the History of Arts, Unnet, Cooler, Demoscene.Ru.

We invite everybody to join us at the festival in competitions, exhibition, seminars and we'll be really happy to see you as visitors. You can bring your own computers too, there will be internet and electricity ;)

Competitions

At Chaos Constructions'2008 various competitions will take place. We are supporting all people attempting to participate in festival - be it amateurs or professionals.

For most of competitions, it is necessary to submit your entries approximately 2 weeks before the beginning of the festival. Some competitions will happen at the party place in real time.

You must register and submit your entries before the festival for the following compos:

          o Invitation (demo, video, picture,... deadline July 1)
    * Combined competitions for computers (PC, Amiga, Mac, game consoles, and others)
          o Combined: 16mb demo
          o Combined: 64k intro
          o Combined: 4k procedural graphics
          o Combined: 32k exe music
          o Mobile: Demo for J2ME, Symbian, PPC/WinCE, WinMobile, PalmOS, Zodiak, and other similar
	    platforms and devices
    * Computer graphics and digital photography
          o Graphics - Handdrawn 
          o Graphics - Photo (digital photography)
          o Graphics - FreeStyle/Rendered
    * Competitions for 8-bit computers (ZX Spectrum, Commodore VIC-20/64, Yamaha and similar)
          o 8-bit: 640k demo
          o 8-bit: 512b intro
          o 8-bit: ZX Spectrum - Graphics 
    * Others
          o Short film and animation (Wild)

Registration of entries and participants (everybody who wants to present entries for compos) is compulsory. Entry must be registered by latest one week prior to the festival. Deadline to submit your final releases to orgas depends on the compo (some - one week before festival, some - during the festival, couple of hours before the compo).

Competitions that will take place during the festival in real time:

    * Creating a fast prod on PC in limited time (1-3 hours)
          o PC Realtime: Coding
          o PC Realtime: Graphics
    * Creating a fast prod on ZX Spectrum in limited time (1-3 hours)
          o 8-bit: ZX Spectrum - Realtime Graphics
          o 8-bit: ZX Spectrum - Realtime Coding
    * Hackquest
    * Hardware development/hack
    * Photography made by visitors at the party place

Additional competitions can be organised, contact the organisers.

For most of competitions, winner is determined by public vote - entries will be displayed on big screen. However, in some competitions jury vote determines the winners. Jury will be made of organizers and invited experts.

Winner of the festival is picked by jury from winners of competitions.

Prizes, their quantity and quality depends on sponsors and competitions. As a minimum, organisers will reward winners with diplomas.
